Turkana children's drawings

"Babu" (grandfather) with a feather in his hair

"Sungura" (which means Hare in Kiswahili) wearing a mud-cap

Chameleon or crocodile?

These drawings were done by young children at a night-time dance near Loiyangalani. An old lady refused to let them dance with the adults, so they cavorted around the fringes instead, until they noticed that I had a pen and a notepad. I spent the rest of the evening sat on the ground with children climbing up my back as their friends drew what they wanted.
