Makonde Woman and Child
Makonde woman and child, southern Tanzania. Note the lip-plug worn by the woman, which was a common adornment until relatively recently (see also the image of a Turkana woman wearing a lip-plug). The photo was taken during the German occupation of East Africa as Deutsch Ostafrika (1885-1918).
