Disclaimer This website is maintained by Jens Finke, the author of the Rough Guide to Tanzania. Evidently, I don't wish to be sued on account of the contents of this website, hence the following statements and clarifications. If you're a representative of one of the companies "de-recommended" here, you will know that you have until now either failed to respond to my queries concerning this de-recommendation, or have responded in an unsatisfactory manner. If you wish to respond, please address your statement to tanzania2 at bluegecko dot org and send a copy to mail at roughguides com. The points to note are the following: 1. The author's views as expressed in the Rough Guide to Tanzania as to the fitfulness of purpose of individual safari companies to execute their services and responsibilities to adequate standards are essentially personal opinions, and as such fall under the right of free speech as defined in Tanzanian law, and in the laws of all territories in which the Rough Guide to Tanzania is published. 2. The author notes that reviews in the Rough Guide to Tanzania serve as free advertising to the companies concerned, and that companies judged unfavourably at the time of research are excluded from the book entirely. It is further noted that no contracts or payments have ever been entered into or paid for in respect of reviews in the said book. Therefore no contract, moral or otherwise, exists between the reviewed companies and the author of this book, or with Rough Guides Ltd. 3. Comments made on this page by the author of the Rough Guide to Tanzania are to be considered personal opinions, in the same manner that reviews made in the book are also personal opinions. 4. It is a fact that the contents of reviews in the Rough Guide to Tanzania are based on perceived merit alone. 5. It is a fact that recommendations in the Rough Guide to Tanzania are a matter of public record. 6. Given the universality of points (1) through (5) made above, the author claims the right to judge whether complaints received from readers of the Rough Guide to Tanzania subsequent to publication are serious (ie. not assignable to bad luck or unforeseen circumstances), or whether the company's responses to the author's emails on the matter are non-existent or insufficient. The author reserves the right to judge the meaning of "serious" or "insufficient" as mentioned above, and also assumes the right to make public, on this web page, his opinion as to why the company in question is no longer recommended, in the same manner that the company's original review makes his previous opinion a matter of public record. |
